Jessica Simpson's recording career has been pure dance pop, but Ashlee Simpson opted to take her music in more of a hard rock direction. Though she never crosses over into feedback-drenched dissonance, Ashlee Simpson's driving pop-punk anthems are perfect for jumping around at a house party. Her debut single, "Pieces of Me", got the young songstress instant attention from pop fans everywhere. Ashlee Simpson was born in Waco, Texas and is the daughter of a former Baptist minister and a former Sunday school teacher. As one can imagine, faith was a strong part of the Simpsons' daily lives. Ashlee Simpson has always been ambitious with the talent to back it up, and she was admitted to the prestigious School of American Ballet in New York City at the age of 11. Life changed when older sister Jessica got a record deal, and the Simpsons all packed up and moved to Los Angeles. Ashlee Simpson even joined sis as a back-up dancer on several of her early tours. Living in close proximity to Hollywood gave Ashlee Simpson an opportunity to explore acting, and she appeared on the hit sitcom Malcolm In the Middle, as well as in the 2002 comedy The Hot Chick. Since her debut album, Ashlee Simpson has moved her music in a more soulful direction, enlisting ace producers Timabaland and will.i.am for her third album Bittersweet World.
