Critically acclaimed house music duo the Basement Jaxx have one foot in the UK's hardcore club underground and the other planted in pop paradise. Few techno artists can be as consistently crowd-pleasing and innovative as the Jaxx have proven themselves to be over their six year career-its as likely as not that, after the sun goes down, there's always a Basement Jaxx song playing on some dance-floor, somewhere in the world. The boys-Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe-got their start DJing a Brixton club. They lit it up right out of the gate on their debut LP Remedy. The soaring dance anthem "Red Alert" led into singles "Jump N Shout," "Rendez Vu" and "Bingo Bango." Their second effort, 2001's Rooty, really shows would-be dancers no mercy, mixing funk and salsa in with huge beats and giddy hooks. The sample-happy "Where's Your Head At?" was an instant classic and the track "Romeo" manages to be sultry and bouncy at the same time. "Romeo" also caught MTV's attention with an innovative video full of Bollywood glitter. They roped together a diverse collection of collaborators for their third full-length, Kish Kash, including goth chanteuse Siouxsie Siouxe, up-and-coming grime MC Dizzee Rascal and 'N Sync's JC Chasez. The Basement Jaxx have also forged a reputation as hit-makers behind the boards, sprinkling some futuristic fun on tracks by Missy Elliott ("4 My People,") Justin Timberlake ("Like I Love You") and N.E.R.D. ("She Like To Move.") The Basement Jaxx have released multiple remix albums and are a fan favorite on Europe's summer festival circuit.
