Owner of a very successful career that reaches around the globe, Belinda Carlisle released her first new solo album in nearly ten years. The album, "Voila," was released on February 6, 2007 in the United States, and one day earlier, February 5, in the United Kingdom. This album represents Belinda's first all-French album. Belinda believes that artists do not need to understand the French language to emote French songs. The language of song is universal and those listening to the French album will still understand the meaning the song is trying to convey.nnBelinda, having been born in Hollywood, California, in 1958, now divides her time between homes in England and France. After she moved to France, she became exposed to a genre that was new to her which included French chansons and French pop music. "Voila" pays homage to the French chanson ("song" in French) and pop music of the 1940s, '50s, and '60s eras.nnBelinda and "Voila" producer, John Reynolds, decided to experiment with different instrumentation on this new album. The only thing Belinda was sure of was that she wanted to sing with an accordion. nnBelinda Carlisle began her career in earnest when she co-founded the all-girl band, The Misfits, with her musical friend, Jane Weidlin. This group was soon renamed to the immensely popular, The Go-Go's. The Go-Go's band also included Charlotte Caffey, Kathy Valentine, and Gina Schock. Brenda left The Go-Go's in 1985 to pursue a solo career but the group reconciled in the 1990s and have reunited to perform together many times since then.nnBelinda Carlisle has also recently appeared on such TV shows as "Celebrity Duets," produced by Simon Cowell, and as a celebrity chef on "Hell's Kitchen." She also sang at the 2007 Manchester Gay Pride event.
