About Billy Currington

Billy Currington (William Matthew Currington) is a well-known US country singer and song-writer. Born on November 19, 1973, his home town is in Rincon, Georgia. Presently, he lives in Nashville, Tennessee. Since he was born and brought up immersed in traditional Southern culture, Billy's music features the roots and lives of hard-working people. Billy Currington began to writing songs and playing guitars at the age of 17. After graduation, he moved to Nashville to make a career in music. As a part-time personal trainer in a gym he met a gym-client who worked for a music publishing company. He invited Billy for an audition. Soon after, he got the publishing deal with the company, which signed him on as a full time songwriter. Eventually Luke Lewis, Co-Chairman of the Universal Music Group Nashville, was impressed by his singing and song-writing and signed him for the company, Mercury Records. In 2003, Billy Currington released his self-titled first album. The debut single off of Billy was "Walk a Little Straighter" and the song portrays the relationship between Billy and his stepfather, who happened to be an alcoholic. This song launched Billy as a main country performer and the song is charted at no.8 on the Hot Country Singles and Tracks chart. In 2004, Billy scored a hit with Shania Twain with the music video, "Party For Two." At the Country Music Association Awards - 2004, Billy and Shania Twain did a live performance of this song. With his increasing popularity, he was named an "On the Verge" artist by People Magazine and USA Today. Nashville Lifestyle magazine listed him as one of its "25 Most Beautiful People." Billy Currington released another successful album, "Doin 'Somethin' Right," in 2005. The album rated no.2 on country's top 10 albums chart and it features hit songs including "Whole Lot More," "Why, Why, Why," and "Here I Am." A highlight was the duet, "She's Got a Way With Me," with renowned singer Michael McDonald. Presently, he is working on his third album and the new single from his upcoming album, "Tangled Up," is expected to hit the stores this fall.
