Bronx-born singer and songwriter Bobby Darin was always a man who bucked convention. Though he started out writing and singing rock & roll hits such as "Splish Splash" in the 1950s, he stood out from the crowd in the '60s as a post-Sinatra crooner. By the end of the decade, he had reinvented himself yet again, as a credible writer and interpreter of folk-rock material, often of a social-protest nature. The multi-talented Darin also had numerous successful film roles in the '60s, and continued performing until his1973 death from a heart condition.
