Boy George (born George Alan O'Dowd) was from a working class family in County Tipperary, Ireland. Boy George is known for his flamboyant lifestyle choices as much as for his music. He performed with Bow Wow Wow for a time at the beginning of his musical career. Boy George started his own group, which eventually would be known, appropriately, as the Culture Club. This name was decided upon because they had an Irish singer, a Jamaican on bass, a drummer who was Jewish, and an Englishman who played guitar. Boy George, now sometimes just called George, recently announced that he would be residing at London's Shaw Theatre, beginning January 23, 2008. George cancelled an October 2007 stint due to commitment differences. During May through August 2007, George toured as a DJ at the following list of places: Blackpool, Coventry, Naples, Rome, Munich, Amsterdam, Rio De Janeiro, Budapest, Beirut, Barcelona, Lyon, Paris, Cannes, Norway, Sao Paolo, and Mykonos. On May 11, 2007, George hosted a party at the Palazzo Versace in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. On March 4, 2007, George acted as a DJ at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia, for a Mardi Gras Festival. In February 2007, he was a special guest host at GLBT night club in Perth, Australia, at The Court Hotel. George had a television appearance on BBC-TV on December 24, 2006 with a segment entitled, "Duet Impossible," where he performs with himself from a 1980s video. George has plans to release a new solo album soon, which will include music from various genres such as reggae, pop, raga, and acoustic venues. Due to his flamboyant way of dress, Boy George has had his own line of clothing for several years now, called "B-Rude." B-Rude has even made its way into some fashion circuit shows.
