Anyone who's been lucky enough to make it to Europe for a summer vacation has probably walked away with a guilty love of Eurodance music. And one of the leading purveyors of this shinny, breezy genre is the German trio Cascada. People who call this stuff "cheesy" probably can't imagine seeing the sunrise from a Barcelona beach-front dance club. The light beats and airy lyrical refrains just makes so much sense! Cascada is fronted by the ingenue singer Natalie Horler, whose killer smile and breathy voice make her the perfect face for any dance-pop act. Typically, these eurodance bands are assembled by music-savvy, club happy DJ's who are always on the lookout for eye-catching talent. The DJ's provide the sugary, anonymous beats while singers like Horler become the "face" of bands like Cascada. At the young age of seventeen, Horler was doing recording work around Germany's famed club recording scene when she met the other two members of Cascada; Yanou and DJ Manian. Originally, the combo recorded and performed under the name "Cascade," but the band had to change it after a legal identity dispute. In 2005, Cascada blew the doors off of clubland with their sublime cover single "Every Time We Touch." The song proved to be the kind of timeless track that bands can found a career on, and to this day Cascada get international party gigs on the strength of that single alone. The single even took Cascada to no.1 on the US dance pop charts. Fortunately for fans of groovy trance-pop, the band's US Every Time We Touch album was by and large successful at scratching the same, hip-shaking itch as the single of the same name. In addition to the title track and remixes, the album features Cascada's happy hardcore take on 70's and 80's classics like Roxette's "How Do You Do!" and Kim Wilde's "Kids In America." Also, the disc has a surprisingly tender take on Savage Garden's 90's love ballad "Truly, Madly, Deeply." Mostly though, you'll appreciate Cascada for the vibe that the band brings to any partyâ_"the promise maybe if you just enjoy the bass and dance everything will be OK.
