Canadian diva Celine Dion is a one-woman vocal force of nature. The French Canadian Dion recorded her earliest albums exclusively in French before switching to English in the early 90's. Celine has said in magazine interviews that her family in Charlemagne outside Montreal was "poor but happy." She always wanted to be a singer and says she devoted most of her day to practicing and studying music. This was a decision she didn't regret. She and her siblings sang every night in their parents' small piano bar. In 1990 Celine released her first anglophone album, Unison, after a string of well-received French Canadian albums. Her early works were heavily influenced by MTV 80's soft rock jams and power ballads and early singles like Power Of Love and It's All Coming Back To Me Now got Celine Dion a reputation as a sophisticated and romantic adult singer/songwriter. She also contributed to the single "Voices that Care," a tribute to American troops in Iraq for Operation Dessert Storm. But movies were to prove the real career breaker for Celine;first she collaborated with Peabo Bryson on the romantic title track to Disney's animated blockbuster Beauty and the Beast, which won an Academy Award for Best Song. Her 1997 album Lets Talk About Love included the platinum smash ballad "My Heart Will Go On," composed by James Horner for the record-breaking Leonardo DiCaprio movie Titanic. On the strength of that song and the accompanying album, Celine Dion went on to international superstardom. She is currently engaged under an unprecedented contract to do 600 shows at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
