Chris Cornell is perhaps best known as a lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for two bands: Soundgarden (1984-1997) and Audioslave (2001-2007). Audioslave, formed in 2001, includes band members Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Welk. Their debut album was released in November 2002 and was self-titled, Audioslave. This album has reached triple platinum status and two singles were released from it, "Like A Stone" and "Cochise." Audioslave toured in 2003 and then settled down to record their second album in 2004. Their second album was entitled, Out of Exile, and was released in May 2005. It reached No. 1 position on the U.S. charts. Their second album attained platinum status. Singles coming from the second album were, "Be Yourself," "Doesn't Remind Me," "Out of Exile," and "Your Time Has Come." Audioslave then toured through 2005 to promote their second album. Audioslave holds the distinction of being the first American rock group to perform in Cuba, where they played for free before an audience of 70,000 people. The group began recording their third album entitled, Revelations, in 2006. They wrote most of the material for Revelations while on the 2005 tour. Their third album was released in September 2006. Two singles that arose from the third album were, "Original Fire" and "Revelations." Also, the television show, Miami Vice, used two other singles from that album for their show before the album was released. Those songs were, "Shape of Things to Come" and "Wide Awake." They did not tour for this third album. Chris Cornell began work on the title track to a James Bond movie and Tom Morello left to pursue a solo career. February 2007 saw Chris Cornell's departure from Audioslave. Chris parted on friendly terms but cited irreconcilable personal and musical differences as the reason for his leaving the group. Chris released his second solo album in June 2007, entitled, Carry On. This album reached No. 17 on the American Billboard charts.
