Nelson Diaz, better known by his game name DJ Nelson, has been a key figure in the explosive reggaeton movement. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico-a city infamous for being half grit and half glitz-DJ Nelson earned a reputation as a local producer and music industry player. Blessed with business savvy, he was quick to found his pioneering Flow Music and has since produced smoking CDs for Baby Rasta, Gringo, Vale and the undisputed queen of reggaeton, Ivy Queen. The sound-a fast, throbbing beat-is indigenous to Puerto Rico but has since been embraced as the fresh young sound of Spanish speaking urban Latin music. To help popularize the genre, DJ Nelson began releasing a hot series of reggaeton mix tapes under his DJ Nelson Presents: Flow Music... series. The tapes include any reggaeton artist worth knowing like Daddy Yankee, Tego Calderon, Hector and Tito and tons more and broke hit tracks like "Dominicana," "Puerto Rico Te La Dedico" and "Sin Complego." Concentrating on his entrepreneurial skills, DJ Nelson was fundamental in starting up the popular Puerto Rican radio station Mix 101.7 to expose his artists. He has mentored the super-producers Noriega and Luney Tunes who are in demand anywhere in the world that an artist wants a reggaeton beat. The finale piece of DJ Nelson's reggaeton empire came when he opened the nightclub Flow La Discoteca in San Juan, which has come to be highly regarded as the world's best reggaeton club. Clearly, the prolific DJ Nelson has earned himself the title Godfather of Reggaeton.
