The Jamaican MC Elephant Man AKA The Energy Man is one of the most quirky and colorful figures on the dancehall scene. O'Neil Bryant took his stage name from childhood taunts about his large ears. Bryant has gone on record saying that his other popular name in the playground was Dumbo-kids can be so cruel! Ele's music career took off when he joined the legendary Jamaican collective Scare Dem Crew and achieved modest local notoriety. Elephant Man split off on his own and developed his dancehall persona-fluorescent orange hair, a bombastic stage performance and a deliberately lisping lyrical delivery all make Elephant Man totally unmissable in today's pop jungle. Elephant Man's big break came when Puma sneakers used his explosive single "All Out" in their high profile 2004 Olympic ad campaign. Elephant Man's unique blend of high energy hip hop and traditional dancehall crystallized on his 2003 album Good 2 Go. The ambitious Elephant Man effortlessly shifted between genres, rocking traditional dancehall tracks like "Pon de River Pon de Bank," then getting reckless blending hip hop and hyper reggae for the title track "Good 2 Go" and the dark and deep cut "Jamaica." Elephant Man knows how to pick his friends too-he teams up with fellow Jamaican visionary Killah Priest for the blazed out and deep grooving "Who We Are" and collaborates with local celebrity Joel Chin on the Caribbean-quirky calypso-ragga "Cock Up Your Bumper." Much to the delight of eclectic music fans everywhere, the unpredictable Elephant Man recently signed with New York's Bad Boy Entertainment and his upcoming album is one of the most hotly anticipated events of the season.
