About Feist

Feist (Leslie Feist) is a famous Canadian Indie rock singer and songwriter. She was born in February 13, 1976 in Amherst, Canada. Feist has performed for many band groups and she is a member of Broken Social Scene (a Canadian Indie-rock super-group). Feist started her music career at the age of 15. With her Calgary punk band, Placebo, she achieved a number of local band competitions and also toured with the legendary punk band The Ramones. After five years, she was forced to take a break from music due to voice damage. After one year, she came on track as a guitarist for "By Divine Right." In 1999, she released her debut solo album, Monarch (Lay Your Jewelled Head Down). After some local music performances, she made a guest vocalist appearance in Peaches' first album, "The Teaches of Peaches" in 2000. Feist joined Broken Social Scene and performed two albums for them ? "Feel Good Lost" (2000) and "You Forgot It in People" (2002). The album "You Forgot It in People" received the Juno Award (2003) for Best Alternative Album of the Year. She also performed for other band groups including The New Deal ("Gone Gone Gone") and for Apostle of Hustle ("Folkloric Feel"). After moving to Paris, she made a guest performance in Kings of Convenience's album, "Riot on Empty Street" in 2004. The second album by Feist, "Let It Die" (Arts & Crafts label) was released in 2003 and was rated as one of the most popular Canadian pop albums (2004). The track "Mushaboom" from this album made it into a Lacoste perfume commercial. The album won two Juno Awards (2005), Best Alternative Album and New Artist of the Year. In 2006, a follow up to her second album ("Let It Die"), "Open Season" was released. Feist released her third solo album, "The Reminder" in 2007. It was listed at #16 on the US Billboard 200 and #2 in Canada. The album is short listed for Polaris Music prize 2007. Recently, Feist did backup vocals for a track "Give ?Er," on Peaches' album Impeach My Bush. She did two tracks for the film "Pairs, je t'aime" ("We're All in the Dance" and "La Meme Histoire"). She also participated in the UNICEF promotion track, "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en?"
