Frankie J

About Frankie J

Latin pop star Frankie J is a contemporary artist who has been in the music industry since the mid-1990s. Coming to San Diego from Tijuana with his family, Frankie J was greatly influenced by traditional Latin music, R&B, and hip hop. He has known success both as a member of a Latin group and a solo artist, and he continues to produce chart-topping singles and best-selling albums. Frankie J first tasted success when he joined the platinum Latin group los Kumbia Kings in 1999. Known within the band as "Cisko," the group toured and performed their hit songs all over Latin America in the early 2000s. Despite the band's popularity, Frankie J's interest in pursuing a solo career never ceased, and in 2003, he released his debut solo album, What's a Man To Do? Though the album failed to create any major stir on the music scene, it did get good reviews and a couple of his singles made it to the Billboard charts. With the release of the single "Suga Suga" in 2004, Frankie J climbed the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand charts and made the top ten. His follow-up albums have received good reviews and have been relatively successful, and he has had the opportunity to work with musicians such as Baby Bash and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Currently, Frankie J is working on new music, with a new album that should be released in the fall of 2007. He has also been approached by both MTV and VH1 about doing a TV show, but has declined for now so he can stay focused on his music. Rumors are floating around that Frankie J is working with big names such as Alicia Keys, Brian McKnight, and Mary J. Blige, but he has refused to confirm these reports, telling fans that they'll just have to wait and see.
