Hunky Englishman George Michael has had a successful 25 years in the pop music business. Starting out in the cheerful synth-pop band Wham!, Michael and his childhood friend Andrew Ridgely released a string of up-beat, catchy singles. Their debut was "Wham Rap! (Enjoy What You Do)" and it was followed up with "Bad Boys," "Club Tropicana" and the 80's nightclub classic (and biggest US hit) "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go." In 1985, Wham! were the first Western band to play communist China, an event documented in Lindsay Anderson's documentary Foreign Skies: Wham! In China. George Michael released a pair of solo albums while still in Wham!, 1984's Careless Whisper and 1986's A Different Corner, earning him a reputation in the brit press as "the musical one." This was born out when, after Wham! split and Michael went on to a highly successful solo career while Andrew Ridgely decided to race cars in Monaco. Michael's highly anticipated post-Wham! solo work started out with his smash single, "Faith" (recently covered by nu metal band Limp Bizkit.) In the video for "Faith," Michael blows up icons from his teen pop days while wearing a bad-boy leather jacket, collar pulled up. Many of Michael's videos and tunes were all about s-e-x, including the US hit "I Want Your Sex." He had more PG hits with "Father Figure," "Jesus To A Child" and the Elton John duet "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me." George Michael has always been involved in public charity work, including Band Aid's "Don't They Know It's Christmas."
