About Hector Lavoe
Hector Lavoe was an influential and popular Salsa singer from Puerto Rico. A student of music throughout his young life, Hector was viewed as a potential star by his teachers. His professional music career began once he moved to New York and quickly joined many musical groups, including the Willie Colon Band. Though he died tragically from AIDS, the sensational vocalist created a powerful stage presence through his talent and improvisational lyrics. As well, his dedication to fans in the form of free concerts continues to be remembered to this day.
