The Puerto Rican-American singer Jennifer Lopez has practically defined what it means to be famous in the 21st century. Even your grandmother probably knows who J-Lo is. The media savvy star has taken her music success and ventured into acting, fashion design and dance. But with all the tabloid headlines she makes, just being Jennifer Lopez is a full time job. Born, as she famously points out in her hit single "Jenny From the Block," in the Castle Hill neighborhood of The Bronx, Lopez was raised a strict Catholic. She attended and graduated Catholic school and since cites her faith as a constant source of strength and stability. The young Jennifer Lopez was also always interested in the music industry and she worked low-paying jobs to finance her initial career. Her first industry gigs came as a background dancer in rap videos, and she was chosen as a regular "Fly Girl" on the groundbreaking early 90's hit TV show In Living Color. Her debut solo album dropped was 1999's On the 6, a shout out to her local subway line. Her blend of sophisticated R&B vocals and sweet club beats shot the disc into Billboard's Top 10. She accompanied hit singles like "If You Had My Love" and "Waiting For Tonight" with steamy videos, and also included a Latin-flavored duet with future husband Marc Anthony, "No Me Ames." 2001 saw the release of her second full-length album, J.Lo, which featured her signature singles "Love Don't Cost A Thing" and "I'm Real." Jennifer Lopez was involved in extravagant, high-profile romances with Puff Daddy and Ben Affleck but broke it off to marry long-time flame Marc Anthony in a secret 2004 ceremony.
