She might be the first one to play up the "dumb blond" stereotype, but the bombshell Jenny McCarthy has relied on showbiz savvy in combination with her undeniable sex appeal to transform limited, Playboy Magazine exposure into a solid, multi-media career. Jenny McCarthy makes no secret about her sexuality, which makes it all the more amazing that the 1994 Playmate of the Year is now a household name, even in households that might be scandalized to discover a copy of Playboy under Jr.'s bed. Jenny McCarthy was born in Chicago, Illinois to a Catholic family and is one of four daughters. After graduating high school, Jenny McCarthy had planned to become a nurse and, needing money for classes, she submitted her photo to Playboy. The magazine hired the leggy, statuesque blond and plans for nursing school were indefinitely shelved. Jenny McCarthy was an instant hit with the magazine's readers, and she quickly found herself making a career out of posing for the camera. She was so popular with readers that Playboy hired her to host the Playboy TV show Hot Rocks, which was a showcase for steamy, uncensored music videos. It's funny how careers play out, and Hot Rocks actually brought Jenny McCarthy to the attention of MTV executives, who thought that her brassy personality and stunning figure would be perfect for hosting their PG-13 dating show Singled Out. McCarthy's love of toilet humor and willingness to make fun of herself along with the hapless date-seekers on the show earned her a solo sketch comedy show bankrolled by MTV. Although Jenny McCarthy still has a good relationship with Playboy, lately she's been keeping her career pretty mainstream and her last appearance in the magazine was 1998's salute to centerfolds. Since The Jenny McCarthy Show, Jenny has been working in Hollywood, and she's appeared in several comedies, usually playing a parody of herself as a dumb blond. Her credits include Things To Do In Denver When You're Dead, The Stupids, BASEketball, Scream 3, Dirty Love and John Tucker Must Die. Jenny McCarthy has also written the best-selling Belly Laughs series of parenting books and has been working on a comedy album.
