KC & The Sunshine Band

About KC & The Sunshine Band

KC and the Sunshine Band was founded in 1973 and found popularity mostly during the time that disco was big. The original founding members were Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and Richard Finch who worked for T.K. Records. Two other T.K. Records employees (Jerome Smith on guitar and Robert Johnson on the drums) became the rest of KC and the Sunshine Band. Over the years, there were sometimes up to eleven members of the band. The music first found success on the Rhythm and Blues charts when the two singles from the first album were released in 1973. In 1974 the group had a hit on the U.K. Top 10, and a few months later had a smash no. 1 hit in America. "Keep it Comin' Love," "Please Don't Go" and "Rock Your Baby" are simply a few of the super-popular hits this group created and soared to the top with. This was dance music that got the party started. The music is pure, feel-good disco with lots of funk and rhythm and blues. It is up-beat and fresh with smooth lyrics that have become a part of our collective musical souls. We still put on our "Boogie Shoes" and "Get Down Tonight" and "Shake Your Booty" because "That's the Way (uh huh) we Like it". Repetitive lyrics and strong rhythm made the perfect dance music. KC and the Sunshine Band created a part of our current culture that that will forever be the epitome of uncomplicated good times. Originality and uniqueness set this music up for success from the start and the same qualities have kept it alive in one way or another ever since, despite the "death" of disco in the 80's.
