Pop singer Katharine McPhee is American in origin and in the fifth season of the TV talent contest, American Idol: The Search for a Superstar, she was the runner-up. Born on March 25, 1984, in Los Angeles, California, McPhee began singing when she was two years old. Her mother, Patricia McPhee, a cabaret singer and vocal coach identified her taste for music and decided to train her. When she was 12 years old, she moved with her parents and sister to the Sherman Oaks neighborhood. McPhee graduated from Notre Dame High School in 2002. During her high school education, she led an active social life. She was a dancer, a student body vice president, a thespian and a varsity swimmer. Together with her elder sister Adriana, she performed in many school plays. After graduation, she enrolled at the prestigious Boston Conservatory and majored in musical theater. When completing three semesters, she returned to southern California and became an active member of the local theater troupe. McPhee played the main role in professional dramas such as "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" and "Annie Get Your Gun." In the year 2005, she was nominated for the Theatre L.A. Ovation Award for her lead role. "Crazy," the biographical musical film of the guitarist Hank Garland, was her final acting endeavor. McPhee's debut single "Somewhere Over the Rainbow/My Destiny" was released on June 27, 2006. In that year, this debut single was the 2nd highest best-selling single after Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud?" Her self-titled debut album was released on January 30, 2007, which sold 116,000 copies in the first week. It contains the hit singles such as "Over It" and "Love Story." According to "The Hollywood Reporter," McPhee will make her feature film debut in "The Last Caller."
