The band has been active since 2005 and plays music in the alternative rock style, also known as Indie Rock, and the new rave style of music that is similar to the American dancepunk genre. The Klaxons have been described as "acid-rave sci-fi punk-funk" by HMV and the band's songs often have supernatural and magical themes. Klaxon member Simon Davis who was studying Fine Art at the Nottingham Trent University was first approached by Jamie Reynolds. James Righton, a Cardiff University graduate later joined the other two to form the band. Steffan Halperin, the drummer, was the last to join the band.
