Leona Lewis has made a big impression on mainstream music in 2008. Lewis invites many comparisons to Whitney Houston. Her voice is beautiful and sweet. Lewis' songs are mostly ballads filled with heart, and they are made even prettier with her notably stunning looks. Leona Lewis was discovered on a British reality talent show called the X Factor, which she won in a landslide. Lewis was born and raised in the Islington section of North London, where she won a talent show at the age of 13. She later graduated from the prestigious BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology. Lewis auditioned for The X Factor while working as a receptionist and pizza waitress; during this time she was already writing her own material. Lewis' debut single was a soulful cover of Kelly Clarkson's "A Moment Like This". She signed an American recording deal with Clive Davis' J Records in February 2007 and her debut album, Spirit, went to the top of the charts in England. Similar success followed in America in 2008.
