About Lily Allen

Lily Rose Beatrice Allen, the brash London-based pop-artist and song writer was born in Hammersmith London, UK on the 2nd of May, 1985. Allen's parents were celebrities themselves, her father being the great British comedian Keith Allen and mother - film producer Allen Owen. Allen inherited much of her father's character--his comic sense and disregard for authority. Lily Allen left school at 15 to concentrate more on her passion: music. When her parents were vacationing in Ibiza, Allen remained in Sant Antoni de Portmanty. While working for a Plastic Fantastic record store there, she came into contact with George Lamb, the previous manager of The Audio Bullys. Lamb readily consented to directing Allen's career. Having been refused by many labels, Allen studied to become a florist but soon changed her mind. In 2004, Lamb introduced Allen to Future Cut, a notable production duo. In 2005, she signed up with Regal Records, where she was promised a sum of GB £25,000 to do an album. Allen, meanwhile, busied herself, establishing a space for herself on 'My Space' where she demoed a couple of her songs in November 2005. There was a hurried release of 500 limited edition 7" vinyl singles of "LDN." Allen also released two mixtapes in the hope of boosting her career. The public response was tremendous and Allen became a star. Lily Allen appeared on the cover story of "The Observer Music Monthly." Her first album- "Alright, Still" (on which she had worked with producers Greg Kurstin and Mark Ronson) was released on July 3, 2006 in the UK. "Smile," one of the songs in the album reached the top slot in the UK Singles Charts of 2006. Allen's other album hits include "LDN," "Alfie," and "Knock 'Em Out." In January, Allen was MTV's Discover and Download artist of the month. Lily Allen appears on several tracks off of "Rudebox," Robbie Williams' most recent album. She recently performed at the concert organized by Princes William and Harry to celebrate Princess Diana's life on 1st July 2007 at the Wembley Stadium. Lily Allen has been nominated for several awards including Best British Single, Best British Album, and Best Breakthrough Act for the year 2007.
