Shawn Mims, an American hip-hop artist was born into a Jamaican-American family on the 22nd of March, 1981. He is renowned for the chart-buster "This Is Why I'm Hot" from his album "Music Is My Savior." nnMims' birthplace was Washington Heights, Manhattan, where he often heard the music of Harlem rappers and was influenced by it. Mims was orphaned by the time he was thirteen and his life had reached a point when he had to choose between being plain desperate or pursuing his passion. Music won the battle and Mims discontinued his college education. He made use of the DJ equipment gifted to him by his mother and became an underground producer cum MC.nnAround the year 2000, Mims joined UBO records, a Latino label. He appeared in the music video with the Canadian pop group Baby Blue Soundcrew for a single titled "Love 'Em All." At his stepfather's wedding in 2003, Mims came into contact with the manager of the famous Blackout Movement, DJ Black. Black was impressed by Mims' song "I Did You Wrong" and helped him release it under his production company banner. In 2006, Mims left UBO records on the lookout for a record company that would encourage him more. nnMims created a record label company of his own namely 'American King Music.' 'The Future'- a mixtape was his first release. Sadly, no one signed him on. Unfazed, Mims recorded his future hit track "This Is Why I'm Hot." The single was a huge success and record labels competed with each other to sign a contract with him. Mims settled for Capitol Records and released his maiden album: "Music Is My Savior" after struggling for four years to get a contract. "This Is Why I'm Hot" soon shot up to the 1st position from its 32nd place in the Billboard Hot 100. Other songs from the album include "It's Alright," "Don't Cry" and "Just Like That." nnSeveral remix versions of the track were released by MIMS himself including a rock version entitled "This Is Why I Rock" or "This Is Why I'm Hot" (Rock Mix) with Purple Popcorn, a notable rock group based in Miami.
