Nina B is not your typical rap artist. She's more than just a pretty face from Brooklyn. An aspiring poet, captivating entertainer and an avid writer, Nina always knew she was destined for something bigger and better. Nina always loved rap and some of her early influences are none other than the classics, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, 2-Pac, but also some surprises like Shyne, Foxxy Brown, Lil Kim and Roxanne Shante. Nina knows that it will be hard to make it in the rap game but she's confident in her most powerful weapon. Nina explains, 'Everybody that loves music would love my lyrics and I know there's no one like me.' Determined to make it to the top Nina knows there will also be numerous comparisons to other female rap artist but as soon as you hear her music her uniqueness rises to the surface. As a young teenager she attended her school's performing arts program and learned about different types of music. As her appreciation for various genres grew she also developed a knack for coming up with her own material, in the form of songs, routines and her other passion, fashion design. Her love of fashion is what inspires her to create her own style and she even considered a career in fashion design before deciding that music is really what was in her heart. Although Nina is a young lady she sounds like an accomplished veteran when she comments on getting into the rap game. 'Most people think all they're going to do is shows. Or they think all they have to do is put a tape out and they'll get discovered.' But it's not all mansions and Benzes it's a lot of hard work and Nina is one of the artist that has what it takes to make it in the business. In fact it almost seemed that Nina was on the fast track when she was offered a deal early in her career by a major label. However she decided to pass because she felt the offer wasn't in her best interest and wait for the next deal to come along. But it was a while before anything else happened and things seemed to go in slow motion for months. Nina promised herself if she didn't get offered another deal by the time she was 18 she was going to quit rapping. That's when she started going to the Hip Hop Project. Nina was your typical frustrated artist, stubborn and defiant but she was blessed to witness a lot of other artist at the event. When she wanted to comment on other people's performances she was eventually forced to fully participate and she met Amber, the owner of Ravenel Records. Amber was teaching a class on how to run your own label. Amber and Nina immediately formed a bond and when Nina went out to Cali to participate in a reality TV show, she and Amber decided that they made a winning combination and Nina became one of Ravenel Records first artist. The label was able to put Nina on a performance tour with the Hip Hop Summit. Nina got to travel all around the country and she learned, 'Everything is the same but different. You have to respect that when you go someplace. As long as you go on stage with energy the crowd will react.' After visiting over 28 markets Nina is back at home and working on her album. She also just completed a Mix CD exclusively for Ravenel Records and Nina already has big plans for the future. Nina wraps it up with, 'I want my first album to have some rock-n-roll beats, bounce beats, soul. I know that my first album needs to be great so I can have an impact.'
