Girl-group The Pussycat Dolls are more of an institution than a band in the familiar sense. Born as a Sunset Strip burlesque dance troupe, the Pussycat Dolls were formed by female choreographer Robin Antin, who cites the sharp, sultry choreography of Bob Fosse as a major influence. They would appear in vintage pin-up costumes and dance to steamy showstoppers like "Fever" or "Hey Big Spender." They held court at LA's Viper Room for years before a Playboy pictorial bumped the group to the larger Roxy club. In 2003, the Pussycat Dolls as a band were born, when singer and former Popstars winner Nicole Scherzinger joined the band. Scherzinger's strong pipes and toned abs earned her the spot as lead singer. She was joined by Carmit Bachar, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta, Ashley Roberts and Melody Thornton. The Pussycats blew up with the release of the second single off their debut album, PCD, a collection of up-tempo party jams that debuted at #5 on Billboard. The aggressively sexy "Don't Cha" featuring Busta Rhymes promoted by high-profile bump n' grind live shows at various MTV awards ceremonies?pushed all the right buttons to get the Pussycats serious instant fame. Now the Pussycats are back with their latest hit "Buttons" featuring everyone favorite pimp Snoop Dogg. The final PCD single is anticipated to be the disc's up-tempo dance floor-ready cut "Wait A Minute." The band recently toured with the hard partying Black Eyed Peas and have graced stages in Europe, the UK, Malaysia and North America. However, The Pussycat Dolls were fined $1,358 for violating Malaysian decency laws.
