Born Reggie Noble, Redman is an American rapper made popular by his work in the rap group Method Man and Redman. He originally burst onto the music scene in the early 1990's as a solo artist and has released nine records including his work with Method Man and Def Squad: Whut? Thee Album (1992), Dare Iz a Darkside (1994), Muddy Waters (1996), El Nino (with Def Squad, 1998), Doc's da Name 2000 (1998), Blackout! (with Method Man, 1999), Malpractice (2001), Red Gone Wild (2007) and Muddy Waters 2 (2007). Redman's debut record peaked at no. 49 on the US Billboard chart, and since then he has grown in popularity as more people recognize the unique quality of his music. The rapper brings a hard edge to his music that many modern rappers have tended to soften up. Although he has collaborated on pop songs like Christina Aguilera's "Dirty", Redman remains true to his rap roots in his solo records. He brings the same vibe to his collaborations with Method Man with songs that combine the two similar rap styles to create an intensely enjoyable and popular sound. Redman has made several television and movie appearances over the span of his career, but his main focus remains in music. He continues to write and record solo tracks while also producing records for his colleagues under his real name. He and the other rappers he works with have successfully created and maintained an entire facet of the rap scene that was not entirely satisfied by other types of rappers; the songs written by Redman do not tend towards a pop sound but neither do they alienate the entire pop audience. He has managed to keep his own style, sell records, and create a niche for himself and those he records with.
