Robert Kelly Rob Thomas, also known as Rob Thomas, is an American pop-rock songwriter and recording artist. Born on February 14, 1972, he is broadly recognized as one of the most talented songwriters and distinctive vocalists in modern music. He records and performs as a solo artist playing guitar and piano.nnBorn in Landstuhl, Germany, Rob was raised in South Carolina and later in Florida. He developed the aspiration to become a musician at the age of 13. On October 2, 1999, he married a model, Marisol Maldonado.nnRob Thomas was the lead singer and primary songwriter of the rock band 'Matchbox Twenty'; and previously of the band 'Tabitha's Secret'. Since 1996, Matchbox Twenty has released a series of hit singles such as 'Real World,' 'Push,' 'Back 2 Good,' '3 A.M,' 'Bent, 'Disease,' 'If You're Gone,', 'Bright Lights' and 'Unwell.' Thomas won a number of songwriting awards for the Matchbox Twenty hits.nnIn 1999, he earned three Grammy awards for singing and co-writing on the Carlos Santana triple-platinum hit 'Smooth' for the album 'Supernatural.' In 2001, he was introduced into the South Carolina Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame. In June 2004, the Songwriters Hall of Fame awarded Thomas with its first-ever 'Starlight Award.'nnRob Thomas released his first solo album, 'Something to Be' on April 19, 2005. The single from this album, 'Lonely No More' reached No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
