SANGRE MICHOACANA Biography The Windy City remains one of the most fertile markets for exciting, new Regional Mexican music. And one of the hottest groups to come out of the Chicagoland scene is SANGRE MICHOACANA, which recently signed an exclusive deal with ASA_ MUSIC! SANGRE MICHOACANA plays the music of MichoacA¡n's Tierra Caliente region - it's a traditional, danceable music that's influenced by percussive tambora rhythms popular to MichoacA¡n's northeast, and old-school mariachi sounds that flourished to the region's west. It's a beautiful, timeless combination that works equally well for dance songs and romantic serenades. And what better group to share this tradition with a growing multitude of fans than SANGRE MICHOACANA, whose six members all hail from MichoacA¡n? Leading this youthful group are the percussionist and manager Sergio HernA¡ndez,, along with lead vocalist, composer and arranger Rigoberto Nieves. Sergio has already gained valuable experience as a member of the popular group Los Kapsi. In 2005, Sergio and Rigo decided to form their own group - SANGRE MICHOACANA - and they quickly called on some of their favorite local musicians from the MichoacA¡n community to round out the band. That same year, SANGRE MICHOACANA released its first album, DespuAcs de Tanto. An independent release, it surpassed all expectations and has sold over 10,000 units to date. Local radio began to support the group as it became clear that there was plenty of pent-up demand for a fresh group playing Tierra Caliente music. SANGRE MICHOACANA has also toured the Upper Midwest and Southeast, alternating with top acts like Diana Reyes, Montez de Durango, and Los Tigres del Norte. In 2006, SANGRE MICHOACANA became a favorite at friendly battles of the bands (Tierra Caliente vs. Duranguense) - hugely popular events that confirmed their music's increasing buzz. SANGRE MICHOACANA released its second album, Hasta Cuando, in late 2006, and quickly notched sales that equaled those of its debut. With a vibrant fusion of Mexican styles, deep songwriting talent, and an energetic show, SANGRE MICHOACANA is leading the vanguard of Tierra Caliente music.
