Avant garde glam rockers The Scissor Sisters can barely walk down the street without causing a commotion in England and Europe but that level of fame has alluded them back home in America. Maybe they're just a little too dangerous for mainstream USA, with their gender-bending arena rock and provocative performance art stage show. Band members Jake Shears (Jason Sellards) and Babbydaddy (Scott Hoffman) met while attending college in Kentucky. But it wasn't til they hooked up with Ana Matronic (Ana Lynch) at a New York Halloween part that the band became serious about their music. They recorded one independent single-"Electrobix" backed with a glittering disco cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb"-and garnered enough interest to score a record deal with the British label Polydor. The Brit's were instantly smitten with the dance-happy glam band and flew them across the Atlantic to perform at the world famous gay A-list club The Cock. They saturated English media by appearing on cult favorite the Graham Norton show, the cover of industry bible New Music Express and the kiddie TV show Popworld. Before they recorded a full album they released several singles including their signature party anthem "Take Your Mama," "Filthy/ Gorgeous" and the unexpectedly tender ballad "Mary." Their self-titled debut album Scissor Sisters was England's best selling record of 2004. Their follow-up, 2006's Ta-Dah, cranked up their brash party aesthetic and camp appeal with the Elton John's collaboration hit "I Don't Feel Like Dancing" which has been a serious presence on the charts since the disc's release.
