Seemless

About Seemless

Positive, emo-tinged metal with a strong Christian subtext, Seemless is something of a Massachusetts metalcore supergroup. Formed in 2003 by singer and lyricist Jesse David Leach following his abrupt departure from the Boston-based metal act Killswitch Engage, Seemless adds guitarist Pete Cortese (also briefly in Killswitch Engage, as well as Medium and Overcast), bassist Jeff Fultz, and drummer Derek Kerswill (formerly of Shadows Fall, Medium, and, somewhat incongruously, the re-formed lineup of 1980s Christian metal act Stryper). Largely dropping the post-hardcore aspects of the members' previous bands, Seemless goes for a more traditional metal sound heavily influenced by both old-school metal of the Black Sabbath generation and grunge-era stars like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains, leavened by Leach's generally affirmative lyrical stance. Signing to the local alt-metal label Losing Face Records in 2004, the band released their self-titled debut later that year. Positive reviews and a growing live rep caused the larger indie Equal Vision Records to pick up Seemless and reissue their debut album in early 2005. The group's second album, What Have We Become, followed in the fall of 2006. ~ Stewart Mason, All Music Guide
