Seether

About Seether

South African band Seether, originally called Saron Gas, is a grunge-influenced group that can be classified as modern metal. With their major label debut Disclaimer in 2002, they have worked hard at building up a fan base in the United States as well as in their native country. Their peak of success in the States came with the release of Karma and Effect in 2005 which charted at no. 8. The subsequent release, a record called One Cold Night (2006), only managed to chart at no. 50 in America. While the previous two records had reached gold and platinum states in terms of sales, this album did not. Finding Beauty in Negative Spaces is slotted for release in 2007. Seether attracted their current record label, Winding Records, when they were still called Saron Gas because of their heavy sound and melodic tracks. Typical of many other largely successful metal bands, Seether produces songs that incorporate heavy guitar and the amazing metal riffs of very talented guitarists with the melodic tendencies of the vocalist. This is, in many ways, a very run of the mill metal band; however, given the band members' affinity for bands like Rage Against the Machine and Pearl Jam, it is easy to see how a song produced by Seether becomes something unique to the metal genre. The singles "Fine Again", from Disclaimer, "Broken" from Disclaimer II and "Remedy" from Karma and Effect are the most successful releases to date, charting at no. 6, no. 4 and no. 5 respectively in the United States. The band relocated to America to promote itself on the wider world stage and to build up a loyal fan base in a country more appreciative of their kind of music than their native nation. Unfortunately, recent singles have dropped to much lower positions on the US charts than earlier releases.
