The New York based Indie rock band The Bravery was formed in early 2003. Current members of the band include lead singer and guitarist Sam Endicott, keyboardist and backing vocalist John Conway, drummer and bassist Anthony "Ant" Burulcich, guitarist and backing artist Michael Zakarin, and bass guitarist and backing vocalist Mike "Dirt" Hindert. Sam Endicott and John Conway are the people behind the actual formation of The Bravery. Before forming The Bravery, they were members of other New York pop band groups: The Pasties, and Conquistador. In both the groups, Sam played the bass, but he soon changed from bass guitar to vocals and began writing songs. He wrote all the songs that collectively formed the debut album titled "The Bravery." Finally, Sam Endicott together with John Conway put up the band. They posted advertisements in local newspapers that were answered by Michael Zakarin, the guitarist. Later, the bassist Mike Hindert, who was Michael's classmate in Georgetown University, Washington D.C also joined the band. Finally, Anthony Burulcich, the drummer from the Bishop Allen band also came to them, ultimately forming a five boys' band group. The first concert of The Bravery was held in Brooklyn at the Stinger Club in November 2003. Their career break occurred when they signed a recording contract with Loog in the UK and Island Def in the US. In February 2005 they released the "Unconditional" E.P on Polydor Record label. The NYC newspaper, "The Village Voice" stated The Bravery as "New York's Official Next Big Thing" while Rolling Stone and MTV referred to them as "an artist to watch." BBC News proclaimed them as the most promising group of 2005. The Bravery released their self titled debut album in March 2005 on two different dates: in the UK on March 14, and in the US on March 29. The first debut single "An Honest Mistake" was charted no. 7 in the UK Singles Chart and no. 12 in US Modern Rock Tracks. The second single "The Fearless" charted at no. 43 in the UK Singles Chart and the third single "Unconditional" charted at no. 49 in the UK Singles Chart. On 22nd May 2007 they released their second album "The Sun and the Moon" that made it to the 24th position on the U.S. Billboard 200. On its first week sold around 22,000 copies. They also played the album at the Dubai Desert Rock Festival 2007.
