Too Much Joy

About Too Much Joy

Eighties indie rockers Too Much Joy were inspired by bands like the Clash. Originally from suburban Scarsdale, NY, their music is part rock, and part comedy ? emerging from the college scene. Vocalist Tim Quirk, guitarist Jay Blumenfield, bassist Sandy Smallens, and drummer Tommy Vinton first started playing together in 1981, when they were all in tenth grade. Too Much Joy's playful style emulates that of Dead Milkmen and the arty King Missile. They had a crazy run at the height of their popularity. They were once arrested for performing obscene material in Florida after performing 2 Live Crew songs, sued by Bozo the Clown for sampling his music, and were once used on Newt Gingrich's campaign trail. Today, some Too Much Joy band members can be found performing under the name "Wonderluck."
