The glamorous rapper Trina hasn't always has things this good. Today, the half African American/ half Dominican rapper is a poster girl for Miami's big-bass, raunchy hip hop sound, but life was hard for Trina when she was growing up. Despite its sparkling image, Miami has some pretty rough neighborhoods, and Trina hails from Liberty City, home of Miami's few low-income housing projects. Though she received little encouragement, the ambitious Trina managed to make a successful life for herself as a real estate broker. She had always been a music lover, but life seemed to have other things in store for her. Fortunately, Trina decided to give the music bizz one more chance after meeting the up-and-coming Florida rapper Trick Daddy at a party. Trick Daddy saw real talent in Trina, and he asked her to be a featured guest on his track "Nann N--ga." The track ended up as Trick Daddy's break-out single, and the rapper has made a point of looking out for Trina ever since. On the strength of her verses, Trina got a deal with Slip-N-Slide Records, a subsidiary of Atlantic Records. In 2000, Trina released her debut album Da Baddest B--ch. The disc was made up of half street bravado and half graphic bedroom rhymes. Singles like the title track and the hit "Pull Over" quickly established Trina as the go-to female rapper for the dirty south sound. Trina also succeeded in telling all about her sexual conquests while still empowering female rap fans, going so far as to coin the term "pimepette" and making her a rare voice in the mostly male-dominated hip hop community. Of course, some male rappers feel threatened by Trina's liberated attitude and she's got her share of haters wherever she goes. Trina also managed to further shock the hip hop mainstream with her 2004 remake of LL Cool J's '89 hit "Big Ole Butt", titled "I'm Leaving You (Big Ol' D*ck.)" The track called out rap's male royalty and offered up lurid commentary on their genitals and sexual prowess. Trina is a popular remix artist, and she has appeared on hit remix track by everyone from Snoop Dogg and Ludacris to Beyonce and Ciara.
