Twisted Sister is a band that, according to guitarist and founder Jay French, produces music describable as "Slade meets Sex Pistols". The band formed in 1973 and since then has enjoyed a rise in popularity that most bands could only dream of. The 1980's saw a decline in record sales, the banning of their video "Be Chrool to Your Scuel", and the subsequent split and sabbatical of the band members. In the 1990's, however, the band reunited and are continuing to re-release their original records and record new music to the delight of their many fans, both in the United States and abroad.nTwisted Sister has been called a glam rock band, but the band members have rejected this label on the grounds that they are not in any way glamorous. Their music, however, does tend towards the glam rock genre and their onstage antics give added shock value in the tradition of Alice Cooper and KISS. Many of the songs, including the hit single "We're Not Gonna Take It", refer to the strained relationship between teachers and students, or parents and teenagers. This rock band has essentially built its reputation on the fact that if their video for "Be Chrool to Your Scuel" hadn't been pulled from MTV, they would not have faced their 1980's decline.nTwisted Sister is currently enjoying a fairly successful revival and is still known for their original lyrical content and stage presence. Their most recent release was A Twisted Christmas in 2006.
